Carine Roitfeld resigns.

I'm two days late...the story of my life but I just learned that Carine Roitfeld is resigning her post as editor of Vogue Paris. Even if you have never picked up an issue there is just one question to ask...WHY?

It can only be something exciting. A tectonic shift such as this in the fashion world can only create something sensational. Who of the  french Conde Nast hive will follow and with what new blood are they mixing? I cannot wait to see the new baby.

Jewelry for the Girly Girl with an Edge

I don't know if you're anything like me but I really have to make an effort to remind myself to wear jewelry. It really only makes its way out of the jewelery box if I really want to impress with my collection of baubles but my newest discovery helped me to realize that just don't have the jewelery that makes my heart sing.
sells jewelery made from bullet blanks. They make everything from  earrings to bracelets and rings. Take a look. I think it will speak to the pretty little hard ass in all of us.

Did you get gravy on your sweater?

So we spend days, months and sometimes years putting together gorgeous sweaters for ourselves and others  with the hope they are actually worn. The problem with people wearing things is that they get dirty with use, stained immediately or sometimes even pill. What's a girl to do with her beloved dirty hand knit? Ship it to The Laundress in New York. Lindsey and Gwen will lovingly wash, de-pill and dry your sweater with Eco-friendly products. Your sweater is then lovingly folded, packaged and returned in better condition than you have ever seen it for a mere $36 per item.

These two are not just two sweater washing grannies working out of their basement. Each has a degree in Fiber Science and Textile management  from Cornell University and have worked for the likes of Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren and CHANEL.

They also do denim services. Check out their blog for garment care tips.

Mean Girls 2

I am not sure how this version is in any way a sequel in that there are none of the original actors, writers (Tina Fey) or charm. It is obvious from the trailer that this version will not lend another classic line like : "Boo, you whore!!" (Say it out loud to get the full effect.) Amazing, isn't it?

In this version it's the Anti-Plastics vs. The Plastics. In reality The Plastics would wipe the floor with their flannel wearing nemisi but I will rent the DVD just to see exactly how the not-the-Lindsay's will reign victorious. Yes, Disney is wise enough to know that there is no box office draw to this film but if you're at the Red Box on a random Tuesday night....

Here's the trailer : um, enjoy? *shrug*

If you want to spend $5,000 today......

Mark Ryden, one of my favorite artists has released two new portfolios for sale on his website. The portfolio pictured is "The Snow Yak Show Print Portfolio".

MAC and Dutch Industrial Designer Marcel Wanders Collection launches today

Today MAC in collaboration with  Marcel Wanders is launching a new collection. One that isn't about color but about structure and packaging.

I am always amazed at Mac's ability to keep our interest with at least two new launches a month. Sometimes they are about new colors but at this point the more interesting launches include a story as with the Tartan Tails or just about cool new packaging. We already love the brand..we just want another reason to buy more MAC. The packaging gimmick gets me as I am always de-potting and condensing my makeup to be as efficient as possible. My kit is huge and the last thing I need is more makeup with awkward angles and bobbles on it to make my life even more difficult. So this means that cool newly designed packaging goes into my personal collection of makeup. Treats galore. MAC always comes through and gives the makeup artist with over 50lbs of makeup another reason to buy and I love them for that.

You can check out the work of Marcel Wanders at www.marcelwanders.com

Read an interview with Marcel about this collection here.

Combining and Aligning

I have made another pledge to myself to actually blog on a daily basis during the week. It's actually part of my business plan so this has to happen. I have spent the year slacking and am determined to bring discipline back into my life. I have never been one to appreciate routines so the challenge will be to keep this blogging thing as interesting as possible for me. So to insure that I don't get bored this blog will just be all over the place: much like me.

The blog from this point will include all the things that interest me and run my life from fashion styling to music, cosmetics, business, other people's business  and of course knitting. I hope that some of these things also interest you. I figure if I cover every color in the rainbow you'll just have to come back to see what's up even if it's just to take a peek.

And away we go...................

Latest Discovery: Mark Ryden: The Tree Show

Some of you know I took a trip to San Fransico last week. I was there with just three days to wander. I decided after my stuffing at The Butler and The Chef bistro that I would wander around SFMOMA: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I was too cheap to pay the $20 admission and decided to wander the amazing--almost block long-- SFMOMA store instead. Joke was on me as I ended up spending five times that on books and souveniers.

My prized find was The Tree Show. A book about painter Mark Rydens Tree Show exhibit in LA in 2007. Yes I am late to the party but I'm so glad I finally came. I am in love with Ryden's wood nymphs, modern Madonna's and his lavish art history references in such modern, fantasy like paintings. Finally a modern artist I can look to who loves Bernini as much as I do. The painting to the left, The Tree of Life, is almost an education in art history all on its own.

The rub: He had a book signing two days after I left San Francisco. I am ok with this as I now follow him on twitter and regularly visit his website http://www.markryden.com/ as  I know he has to make it to Chicago sometime.

Good sleep for your hair.

hair

One of the questions that I am always asked is "How do I stop this from happening?" as a model or a bride-to-be wanting long hair is pointing to the broken hairs along her hairline. My answer: Silk pillow case. BeautyZZZ has a great one for only $47 on Beauty.com If you're not into dropping $47 you can also get a satin pillow case at Sally Beauty

Most breakage occurs in your sleep. As your tossing and turning your hair is rubbing and breaking off against your cotton pillow case. Silk and satin are much smoother and will significantly reduce damage done during the night. A sleep cap is another choice but a little tougher to pull off with a guy around.

Happy Monday!! Update on what I am knitting.

2010 has been such a busy year for me that my knitting mojo just completely jumped ship. Every time I would attempt to pick up a current project I would fall asleep. A little confused, I began to question this knitting funk. Besides just being exhausted I was had to ask myself what the problem really was. I have not finished a major project in 2010 (socks excluded) nor have I purchased any new yarn except for my Loopy Ewe sock club packages that I actually sold as I knew at this rate I would never get to them. Then the "AHA" moment arrived. The culprit was my well intentioned Knitting Knew Years Resolution to not start any new projects until every UFO I have is completed. Talk about a buzz kill.

Knitting is a hobby to be enjoyed, indulged and enabled by you and your knitting buddies. This little knitting gestabo-like resolution I executed had killed everything I loved and really am as a knitter. I am Ms. Startitis. I scroll through what my friends are putting in their ques, actually starting, finishing and all new Ravelry patterns to get inspiration for my next new knitting love.(Upon final edit I realized I didn't mention looking through my own que. That might be a GOOD resolution.) I start many projects at once but I also realized that I will get hit with finishitis. There are times that all I want to do is finish everything on my needles. That doesn't mean everything gets finished but two or three at a time ain't bad and this I now accept. I will start what I want when I want and if the project is meant to be finished...at some point it will be.

So what have I allowed myself to start? What wonderful project revved my little knitting engines? VIVIAN by Ysolda. She has been in my que for some time but I had another revelation about something I do to stomp my happy knitter. I save the projects I really want to do and then work something that I want to do but don't love as much. Weird. This too will stop as the love for this project is immense. I am using the Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Lobster Mix. I originally purchased the yarn to make A Little Ruffle but the pattern bored me to tears and the yarn was calling to be something pretty and a bit more interesting. As I finish my first sleeve I see that this was a perfect marriage of yarn and pattern. Off to a great re-start to my 2010 knitting year.

Ok. So a number of people, at this time about 700, are pissed at FB and will be deleting their pages based on the new security settings FB has forced on us all.
